Masterclasses

GCSE SCIENCE & MATHS · LIVE ONLINE

Build the skills that turn knowledge into marks.

Short group masterclasses, each teaching one skill that leads to success — from writing strong extended responses to solving multi-step problems. Learn a clear method, then practise it on real past-paper questions.

WHY THESE CLASSES EXIST

Students often know the content. Marks slip on how they use it.

Every year, examiners publish what went wrong. Many of our masterclasses are built around these recurring problems.

“Make sure your answer matches the question.”

Pearson Edexcel GCSE Physics examiner report, June 2023 — on extended responses

“The most common errors were in unit conversion.”

Answers were “too vague” and not linked to the context of the problem.

THE MASTERCLASSES

One skill per session. A method you can reuse in every paper.

GCSE PHYSICS · COMBINED SCIENCE

Answering extended response questions

Fixes: answers that list facts but don’t answer the question; one-sided comparisons.

You leave with: decode the command word → plan in 60 seconds → write linked points → check against the level descriptors.

Mon 26 Oct or Thu 29 Oct · 10:00–11:30

GCSE PHYSICS

Getting physics calculations right

Fixes: wrong equation, rearranging, unit prefixes, standard form, working that can’t be followed.

You leave with: one routine — Given → Find → Equation → Rearrange → Substitute with units → Check. Plus a calculator drill.

Tue 27 Oct · 10:00–11:30

GCSE MATHS · HIGHER

Solving multi-step maths problems

Fixes: missed steps in multi-stage problems, rounding too early, answers not tied to the context.

You leave with: a four-step checklist — understand, plan, solve, look back — with the “look back” step examiners say is missing.

Wed 28 Oct · 10:00–11:30

Coming later: Graphs & data · Required practicals · A-level Mechanics · Proof & “show that”. Tell me when these open →

HOW A SESSION WORKS

Half the session is the student doing the work.

5 min

Introduction

The goal, and one exam question tried cold.

15 min

The method

What earns marks, what loses them, and one named method.

15 min

Worked examples

Solved step by step, thinking aloud, then one together.

45 min

Student practice

Real past-paper questions, marked against the real mark scheme, with feedback.

10 min

Q&A

Questions answered, plus a take-home method sheet.

WHY THIS FORMAT

Built on what research says works.

Worked examples first

Studying solved examples before solving alone helps learners new to a skill more than jumping straight into problems.

Sweller & Cooper (1985); Atkinson et al. (2000)

Practice that tests

Answering questions from memory strengthens learning more than re-reading notes.

Roediger & Karpicke (2006)

Feedback on the spot

Specific feedback on the task, while working, is one of the strongest influences on learning.

Hattie & Timperley (2007)

FOR PARENTS

Before you book

What does my child need?

A device with Zoom. A tablet with a stylus works best for showing working — if that’s not available, just let us know in advance.

How do I book and pay?

Choose a date and book online — you pay by card at checkout and your place is confirmed straight away. The Zoom link is emailed to parents 24 hours before the session.

What if we can’t make it?

Full refund within 14 days of booking (before the session), or up to 48 hours before the session. After that, we’ll move your place to another date. Booking & refund policy

Is it safe for my child?

Parents book on their child’s behalf. Sessions are not recorded, and the Zoom link is sent to parents only. Cameras on is ideal. Safeguarding policy

Which exam boards?

The skills apply across boards. Practice questions are drawn from AQA, Edexcel and OCR past papers.

What if the class doesn’t fill?

Each class needs at least 4 students to run. If fewer book, we’ll offer you another date or a full refund.

Want more than one skill fixed?

1:1 coaching builds understanding and confidence across the whole course, at your child’s pace.
